Skiing in Traverse City has been an integral of life on the bay for the past forty-six years. In the early 1950's, a group of skiing enthusiasts organized the Grand Traverse Ski Club, and through the years it has contributed to the development of competitive skiing in the Grand Traverse Area.
The purpose of the Grand Traverse Ski Club is to "create an interest in and promote the development of skiing, both recreational and competitive...". The GTSC was established over 46 years ago and has helped a great number of Traverse City youth become accomplished skiers and racers. GTSC is proud of the fact that many of its racers have been high school team members and have reached national prominence in competitive skiing (e.g. Junior Olympics).
Training programs offered by GTSC include Learn to Ski and race clinics for skiers 4 years of age and older, the Junior High (Middle School) Team training and racing program for 6th, 7th and 8th graders, a snowboarding program for kids, and a summer mountain biking program.
